Oscar De La Hoya, once one of boxing's biggest names, saw his athletic career come to an end in 2008. Around that time, in late 2007, De La Hoya was photographed wearing women's clothing in the company of a female companion not his wife. Though the pictures gained massive amounts of attention in the tabloids, the boxer's attorney renounced them as fabrications, stating that "the photographs depicting Mr. De La Hoya's image that were posted online [by] an obscure paparazzi Web site are fake. Many of the Web site's viewers (as reflected in postings on the site) identified the photos as 'a really bad photoshop job.' Unfortunately, with today's technology, anyone can make any photo seem like something other than it is." However, in a later interview with Univision, De La Hoya came clean about the photos and revealed that most certainly was him in the wild outfit.
The boxer has also had three separate stints in rehab for substance abuse, the first one taking place in 2011. During a recent stop-off at The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God asked him about those infamous lingerie pictures and Oscars seemed to tie it to whatever demons he was wrestling with at the time. "Just a bad time in my life," Oscar said. "That's it." He did not expand on the statement and give any specific details, but it's clear it was an episode he'd like to put behind him. He also pointed out that the pictures were taken ten years ago, but admits that the power of social media has the ability to bring such indiscretions back into the public sphere, whether he wants it to be that way or not. Despite all this, De La Hoya did have a positive outlook about the whole situation and where it stands now.
"In America, you have the opportunity to rise and shine and get better and be better, and that's exactly what I've done," he stated, however that phrase might not be without at least some irony. Earlier this year, De La Hoya was arrested for driving under the influence in Pasadena, California.
