Netflix has a new original series coming this August called "The Get Down" which is a mythic saga of how New York, at the brink of bankruptcy, gave birth to a new art form.
The music-driven drama series takes place in New York during 1977, and chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco as told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever.
The Get Down is executive produced by Nas as well as Baz Luhrmann and four-time oscar winner Catherine Martin. The series will officially kick off on August 12th and will consist of 12 episodes.
