Before he took over the stage at Irving Plaza Monday night for the opening show of his "Victory Lap Tour," Nipsey Hussle decided to call into The Angie Martinez Show Monday afternoon to chop it up for a few minutes.

After talking about his new tour, the 4-minute discussion quickly transitioned into Nipsey’s decision to put a photo of Kanye West wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat on the screen behind him during his performance of “Fuck Donald Trump” at the Broccoli City Festival in Washington, D.C. back in April.

Nipsey wanted to clear the air that he wasn’t taking a shot at Kanye, but was just trying to find a visual representation that matched up with where the conversation was going. “I wouldn’t even consider that a personal jab at dude,” he said. “I just felt like when I was doing visuals for these songs, it was no more fitting a piece of art or picture that represented how people felt about the president, and what the convo around dude was at the time.”

However, Nipsey did admit that when Kanye was spotted wearing the MAGA hat that it felt like a kick in the gut to him & the people.

“As people, me coming from the street, representing the street, that’s how we all felt when we seen that dude with that hat on, like it was a kick in the gut,” he said.

Take a listen to the full 4-minute chat (below) and/or fast forward to the 2:10 mark to hear him talk about Kanye’s MAGA hat.
