The Nike Zoom Kobe 1 Protro will return to retailers next month in a special edition colorway inspired by the Minneapolis Lakers uniforms from the 1950’s and ’60s. The "MPLS" colorway originally released back in 2006, and is now set to release again on July 6 for the retail price of $175.

While the 2018 version features a number of technologically advanced updates, the color scheme remains the same as the '06 pair, sporting a grey upper accompanied by hits of baby blue and white. Kobe's logo, "MPLS" and the Nike Swoosh are all present on the tongue in silver, while "MPLS" appears again on the inside of the tongue.

The Minneapolis Lakers recorded five championships, just like Kobe, after the franchise relocated to Minneapolis and changed their name to the Lakers to reflect the Minnesota state nickname, “Land of 10,000 Lakes.”
