Without 150 thousand SoundCloud subscribers, Ottawa artist Night Lovell is bound to properly blow up sooner or later. He has been relatively quiet since he released his album Red Teenage Melody in August 2016. Earlier Thursday morning, he posted a new song called "Whoever U Are."
Produced by Hector Vaé, "Whatever U Are," adds a natural twist to Lovell's gothic aesthetic. Vaé's beat evokes a perfectly still pool of water glittering peacefully in the moonlight (evidently, this reflects Lovell's nocturnal state of mind). This vibe is interrupted periodically by the dreaded phone-line-in-use dial tone that seems to portends doom.
