"It's not me & it's not Uzi tho."
Nicki Minaj has been looking to get on Lil Uzi Vert's "The Way Life Goes" since August. Posting a video of herself vibing out to the track on Instagram, Nicki sent a clear message in her caption, writing, "ummm Uzi better make this a single, send me the beat, and quit playin." Fast forward two months and the remix is reportedly complete, but a decision has been made to keep it on the back-burner for the time being.
Been done!!! but apparently someone somewhere wants to hold back on putting it out right now. It's not me & it's not Uzi tho. Tea anyone? https://t.co/aquzp0YiiX— NICKI MINAJ (@NICKIMINAJ) October 20, 2017
"Been done!!!" Nicki said of the remix, answering a fan's question on Twitter. "Apparently someone somewhere wants to hold back on putting it out right now. It's not me & it's not Uzi tho. Tea anyone?"
It's not clear if Minaj even knows exactly who's causing the halt on release, though it seems likely that it would be a label decision. Uzi's "The Way Life Goes" was released as the second single from Luv Is Rage 2 on October 3rd. It's currently sitting at No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the rapper's mega-hit "XO Tour Llife" gradually falls from its top ten peak, moving from 30 to 35 last week.
As we've seen with other recent rap singles, "The Way Life Goes" remix could very well be released after the song has been pushed to its peak on the charts. If that's the case, it shouldn't be too long before it makes its way out.
Meanwhile, Nicki is preparing to release her long-awaited fourth studio album. Speaking with the New York Times T Magazine this week, she gave an update on what to expect from the album. “Sonically, I know what the album’s about to sound like," she said. "I know what this album is gonna mean to my fans. This album is everything in my life coming full circle and me being truly, genuinely happy. It feels almost like a celebration." She also spoke to how personal her last album, The Pink Print, was and how that process allowed her to mature and evolve while working on her current project. "The last album [was] almost like my diary, closing the chapter on certain things and not knowing if I was happy or sad about beginning new chapters [...] Now, I can tell you guys what happened for the last two years of my life. I know who I am. I am getting Nicki Minaj figured out with this album and I’m loving her."
