The Roots are known for their annual picnics, the 2014 edition of which will be going down May 31st. Action Bronson, Janelle Monáe, A$AP Ferg, Jhené Aiko, Just Blaze, Rudimental, Araabmuzik, and Biz Markie, will be making appearances at that show, but the group have now announced another Philly-based celebration for the 4th of July.

The Independence day celebration will have a more pop-oriented lineup, but with no less star power, enlisting Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Ed Sheeran, and Aloe Blacc.

Much like their role on Jimmy Fallon, The Roots will serve as the backing band for all acts.

The show will air live on VH1, as well as Palladia on July 4th.

The Roots upcoming 11th studio album, & Then You Shoot Your Cousin is due out May 19th.
