This is probably the most unconventional divorce announcement we’ve ever seen. Despite being denied a rap battle with Eminem for charity, Nick Cannon apparently still felt the need to let off some creative juices. The result is “Divorce Papers,” a track that is extremely revealing about his reported refusal to sign divorce papers with Mariah Carey, and actually kinda sad.
Over a percussion-less soul-sampling beat that wouldn’t sound out of place on an early Kanye record, Nick Cannon raps about his mind state, his divorce and the public’s perception of him. He raps in a reserved voice, and even empathizes with Eminem at one point. At the end, Nick drops a bombshell: he’s decided to sign the divorce papers and make his split with Mariah Carey official.
