Netflix Picks Up Deadpool Co-Creator's "Extreme Universe"

The streaming giant is looking to add to their expansive repertoire.

Deadpool 2 will makes its highly-anticipated theatrical debut this May, with fans of the first film waiting with bated breath to witness the R-rated hijinks of this latest Marvel Cinematic Universe production. Expect the hype surrounding the film to infiltrate all forms of media, as the Ryan Reynolds-led project kick summer blockbuster season into overdrive. 

Always one to insert themselves within mass hysteria, Netflix has announced that they will be acquiring Extreme Universe, which contains the full set of comic book characters from the mind of Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld. 

Details about this upcoming film series remain relatively scant, but its is reported that the streaming company has invested a seven-figure salary in order to secure rights for the six Extreme Universe books and its 50-plus superheroes/villains. 

The company's feature film chief Scott Stuber reveals that "Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Universe features gritty stories and distinctive characters. Akiva’s creative voice has been behind some of the largest movie franchises, making him uniquely capable of helping bring these superheroes from the Extreme Universe to life for Netflix.”

There is no news yet on when the first film of this intended saga will go into production or debut on the streaming service.
