Though the future of Netflix's former anchor for their original programming may have been in doubt, the streaming giant confirmed today that production will indeed resume on House of Cards, just without their disgraced male lead.

As per Variety, Netlfix has reached an agreement with the show's producers on a revamped timeline for the show's production, which will now begin in the early part of 2018. Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that, while the show will be given one last season to wrap storylines up, the amount of episodes it will have at its disposal will dwindle significantly. The report states that, instead of the customary 13 episodes that prior House of Cards seasons have offered to viewers, this sixth and final go-round will only have eight.

Robin Wright will return to star as Claire Underwood, stepping into the spotlight as the show's sole core star, after the departure of Kevin Spacey via an unceremonious public firing from the show. The veteran actor, who was accused of sexually harassing another male actor who was underage at the time, has also been nixed from an upcoming Ridley Scott film All the Money in the World. Christopher Plummer has taken over Spacey's part in that movie.

“We were really excited we could get to an agreement… for the conclusion of the show,” said Sarandos on Monday. This move signals the end of what has been an enormously successful run for Netflix's original critical darling. Are you sad to see the show go? Let us know in the comments.
