Pharrell celebrated his 43rd birthday earlier this week, and just this afternoon we put up our weekly TBT list dedicated to Clipse-- which, it goes without saying, means Pharrell. With that on my mind, this week's Throwback song of the day is one of N.E.R.D.'s early singles, "Rockstar," which appeared on the collective's debut album In Search Of... back in 2001. That's fifteen years ago, it's hard to believe.

N.E.R.D. juxtaposed a love for hip-hop with a prominent rock influence. This particular guitar-heavy record feels more like a rock record than a hip-hop one, but that just shows how Skateboard P was always ahead of his time-- nowadays blurred genres and styles are no big deal, in fact, it's a way of life.

There have been reports/rumors about a new N.E.R.D. album for quite some time. The last such report surfaced in September 2015.

Quotable Lyrics

You can't be me
I'm a rockstar
I'm rhyming on the top of a cop car
I'm a rebel and my .44 pops far
It's almost over now
It's almost over now
