One of the biggest releases of this past week was a soundtrack, to the upcoming Nat Turner-inspired film "Birth of a Nation," which hits theaters on Oct. 7. The soundtrack opens with a fiery new protest song from Vic Mensa, and moves on to a collab between Meek Mill and Pusha T, a new 2 Chainz track, and then a reflective banger from Gucci Mane and Lil Wayne. The penultimate track on the album, before a gospel arrangement from the Wiley College Choir, is a brand new track from Nas, entitled "War." The song, on which Nas makes a declaration of war against institutional racism, features London singer Raye. The beat starts with just with piano but veers into unexpected high-production territory as Nas' message heats up and Raye delivers a powerful chorus.
