DJ Absolut has been making a weekly tradition of releasing rare unreleased versions of some classic New York rap songs. His latest is a quite different take on Nas' "Last Real Nigga Alive," a highlight from God's Son, arguably one of his best full-lengths. The track was originally produced by Ron Browz, built off of a low-key groove, but Absolut's new version features a more energetic boom bap beat.

In either form, it brings to mind a very singular era, when Jay Z and Nas were still the ultimate rivals, one album removed from the height of their on-record beef, but still very much in opposition.

Quotable Lyrics:
Then this nigga's with Jigga too much
He used to say Jay wanted my spot
I laughed, stayed home, never hung a lot
A quiet man who used to be alone planning
Baby moms thought I was too quiet, couldn't stand it
