Missy Elliott has made history since becoming the first female MC nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The Virginia rapper may be the third rapper to enter the Hall of Fame following Jay Z and Jermaine Dupri. "I am Humbly Grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers," Missy wrote on Twitter.
Missy has helped pen hits such as Monica’s “So Gone," 702's “Where My Girls At,” and the cover of “Lady Marmalade” featuring Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya, and Pink. Missy has also worked with Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, SWV, Total, and Tweet and has written songs for Beyonce, Whitney Houston and of course herself.
Other acts that have been nominated are Mariah Carey, Chrissie Hynde, Vince Gill, Mike Love, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Lynne, Cat Stevens, John Prine, Lloyd Price, Tommy James, and the Eurythmics. As for non-performing nominees, Jack Tempchin, Dean Dillon, Jerry Fuller, Tom T. Hall, Roger Nichols, and Dallas Austin have also made the cut.
The 50th annual Induction & Awards Gala takes place in New York on June 13th, 2019.
