Confusion continues to mount around the upcoming Aaliyah album, as close friend and long time collaborator Missy Elliott revealed that she knew nothing about the project. Original reports were that Drake would be producing the album, and then he confirmed that his producer Noah “40” Shebib and he would be “commanding” the project, and stated that people “essential” to Aaliyah’s career would be involved – which infers both Timbaland and Missy’s involvement.
Now, in a tweet to a fan regarding Aaliyah’s album, which was later deleted, Missy Elliott said (from HipHopDX) “I had no clue there was no 1 told me…” This comes after one of the heads of Blackground Recordings, Jomo Hankerson, who is also Aaliyah’s cousin said “I can tell you that Timbaland will definitely be involved, Missy will definitely be involved.”
Previous reports were that Noah “40” Shebib would be producing the bulk of the records on the LP, but that Timbaland would be producing a couple tracks, but even that is yet to be confirmed. All we know for now is that there is an Aaliyah project, and that Drake is involved in some manner, and that both Drake and Aaliyah’s label want to see Timbo and Missy involved.
For now, you can at least enjoy Aaliyah’s “Enough Said” from the project, featuring Drake.
