The Milwaukee Bucks have unexpectedly fired coach Jason Kidd ahead of tonight's game against the Phoenix Suns, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski

Bucks assistant head coach Joe Prunty will take over as interim coach.

According to Wojnarowski, there were several reasons why the Bucks decided to cut ties with Kidd, including frayed relationships within the organization and "general non-alignment." Not to mention, Milwaukee has dropped to 8th in the Eastern Conference with a 23-22 record.

In Kidd's 291 games with Milwaukee since taking over the job in 2014, the team has an overall record of 139-152, including last year's mark of 42-40 which was Kidd's best season as Bucks head coach. Entering tonight's home game against the Suns, the Bucks have lost four of their last five.

Shortly after the news was announced on social media, ESPN's Chris Haynes said that Giannis Antetokounmpo was "devastated."
