It seems like a joke, but it's not.
Miley Cyrus has taken another unexpected step in her career, confirming the rumours that she was going to appear in season 5 of Black Mirror. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cyrus told Howard Stern, in an appearance on his radio show, that if he guessed the rumour "then I will shake my head 'yes,' or 'no.'" He guessed it and she went into a slight bit more depth about her role, which she filmed in South Africa during the recent wildfires in California, which burned down her house:
There’s a lot of dimension to it, and actually it was while the devastation of Malibu was happening, and it was a really weird learning experience for me, because I was so far from home and the show is already really dark, and it’s already kind of eerie when you’re there the whole time. But I learned a lot about myself and I think I was able to kind of use that and put that into it.
This casting decision could be a Black Mirror episode in itself. Let's hope she's playing herself or something at least related to the many layers of her fame and her strange ascendence from child star to pop star to hated hip-hop culture vulture to making a pretty good new song with Mark Ronson. The new season will be online as of December 28th.
