Melii found herself in the middle of a possible quarrel between Meek Mill and Tory Lanez following the release of her debut project, phAses. Meek helped shine a bigger spotlight on her name with her inclusion in the "Intro" music video and also her feature on Championships. After Tory announced that Melii was signed to One Umbrella, Meek wrote in a since-deleted comment, "This a corny ass move on both y'all end." Melii quickly was pressed by fans who claimed she was a snake and disloyal to Meek but she insists that's not the case.

Melii issued a lengthy statement on her decision to sign with Tory Lanez instead of Meek Mill. Although Meek's been guiding her over the past few months, she said that Tory and One Umbrella have been trying to sign her for a while.

"It's easy to judge n argue about things that aren't true n seem a certain way because of social media... but not once have I bashed meek or ever plan on doing so," she explained. She continued to say that there were issues happening behind the scenes after she got off the Motivation tour with Meek but she still wanted to be apart of the team.

"It was addressed n I tried to hold a conversation that wasn't an option that was given to me so I moved on n got offered support from another team," she continued. "I never intended to snake anyone. If anything I tried my best to work around many things that put me in uncomfortable situations," she added.

She explained that she understands why Meek reacted the way that he did off of his emotions but she made it clear that she isn't ungrateful or the "crazy bitch" that the Internet is trying to paint her out to be.

"My decision with going with Umbrella was based [off] an offer that was already there from years ago n wanting to better my craft n where I felt i belonged."
