NBC has fired its leading news anchor, Matt Lauer after a co-worker accused him of "inappropriate sexual behavior." The studio's president, Andrew Lack, sent out an official statement to the employees this morning saying the allegations against Matt “represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment.”

“While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident," the statement explains.

A source tells PageSix that the victim claims the incident happened during the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014.  “This happened so quickly. She didn’t go to the media, she made a complaint to NBC’s human resources, and her evidence was so compelling that Matt was fired on Tuesday night," the source reveals. "The victim says she has evidence that this has also happened to other women, but so far we don’t have evidence of that.”

Matt's co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, announced the revelation during this morning's newscast saying she is "heartbroken." Watch the full clip below.

Matt is just another leading figure that has made headlines for sexual misconduct following Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ratner, Louis C.K., Russell Simmons and more.

President Donald Trump found time to speak out on Matt's allegations in one single tweet seemingly shocked that Matt was fired, but confused as to why the "top executives" of the company are not being let go for putting out "Fake News."
