MTV is prepping the release of the third season of their horror series Scream, but the show will face some major changes. MTV revived the classic 90's horror film for their show, but after two seasons, there will be some retooling. The linear connection between seasons is getting the ax, and season three will start the anthology design that will dictate the show from now on. According to The Hollywood Reporterthis upcoming season will be set in Atlanta, and will revolve around a football star. Season three will feature six episodes, which is half the length of the last season.

The upcoming season of Scream will follow Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler), a star running back for his high school football team whose tragic past comes back to haunt him. Mary J. Blige recently signed on to play Elliot's mother, Sherry Elliot. This will be her first role since her Oscar-nominated performance in Mudbound. She was nominated for both Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song, the first time anyone has been nominated in both categories in the same year. The cast also includes Keke Palmer, Tyga, Giorgia Whigham, Tyler Posey,  Jessica Sula, Giullian Yao Gioiello, and the son of late rapper Biggie Smalls and Faith Evans C.J. Wallace.
