It's safe to say that many hip-hop heads have a shared appreciation for comic books, and plenty of rappers have made lyrical reference to the vast worlds of Marvel and D.C. And while the superheroes have been well represented in recent years, it's rare that a villain or antihero is given a moment in the spotlight. Of course, we have films like the cult-classic Spawn, or even blockbusters like Deadpool or Suicide Squad, but taking on Marvel's Venom seems a daring feat. After all, while Venom has spent time as an antihero, there are moments where the character is a straight up villain.

Today, the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming Venom movie has been released. The film stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, and while the Sony produced film isn't technically part of the MCU, remember...neither was Spider-Man, originally. A deal can always be made, especially if Venom proves a box office hit. Check out the teaser below.

Seeing as this is merely a teaser, it's no surprise that we don't actually get to see Venom at all; they're no doubt saving his appearance for the official trailer. To be honest, the whole thing seems more concerned with setting a tone, although we do get a momentary glimpse at the Symbiote. While it will be hard to top the Venom origin story from the hit nineties animated Spider-Man cartoon, hopefully Sony can deliver something respectful for the legions of Eddie Brock fans out there. The film is set to be released in October. Anyone remember this?
