As most of us know, the former First Family is on vacation in Palm Springs, California. Well, that is all but one member, miss Malia Obama who decided to skip the family vacation for Sundance Film Festival instead.

Malia has secured an internship with film producer and studio executive Harvey Weinstein for her year-long break before college, so it's only right that the young lady immerses herself in the industry by visiting Sundance Film Festival this week. But instead of partying with superstars, Malia has opted to join forces with Dakota Access Pipeline protesters at the festival.

According to a report from Complex, Malia and Divergent star Shailene Woodley were among a group spotted at protests at the festival earlier this week. Woodley, who had previously been arrested at the Standing Rock protests, had nothing but good things to say about the president's daughter.

It was amazing to see Malia. I saw her last night when we did the event with Chairman Dave Archambault. And it was incredible to see her there. Also, to witness a human being and a woman coming into her own outside of her family and outside of the attachments that this country has on her, but someone who’s willing to participate in democracy because she chooses to, because she recognizes, regardless of her last name, that if she doesn’t participate in democracy, there will be no world for her future children.

You can read the full interview from Woodley here. Additionally, you can check out photos of the Obama's sprawling Palm Springs spread here.

Kudos to you Malia!
