Despite being nominated for 12 Grammy awards throughout his storied career, Lupe Fiasco has only won a single Grammy. To top it off, he was too sick to attend the Grammy Awards the year his classic hit “Daydreamin” won a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance
Lupe’s lawyer ended up taking home the award in the rapper’s stead, and it sat in that lawyer’s garage for the last nine years or so. However, at a recent show in Cincinnati, Lupe was reunited with the award, and decided to finally give his own version of an acceptance speech. The speech starts at 3:10 in the video. With no specter of “wrap it up” music playing in the background, he thanks everyone from the city of Cincinnati to his family.
Lupe Fiasco seems genuinely happy to be holding the award after so long, and it’s a real as can be moment.
