Despite the fact Lupe Fiasco said he wouldn't drop another album this year, he's delivered an influx of music in the past few weeks. In addition to those, he debuted the sequel to "Hip Hop Saved My Life" at a show in Dallas, TX last night (Nov. 5).
During his performance last night, Lupe Fiasco put a pause on his performance to premiere some new music. Lupe ran backstage to grab his phone before telling his fans he wanted to share something special for them. While fans stood in the crowd waiting, Lupe debuted "Hip Hop Saved My Life Pt. 2" which is possibly going to land on his upcoming album, Drogas Waves. He didn't perform the track during his set. Instead, he vibed out with the crowd by dancing throughout the song and letting his fans get a taste of the studio quality version. Lupe teased the song earlier this year on his Food & Liquor 10th anniversary podcast. He only shared about a minute of the song at the end of the show, leaving fans eager to hear the full high quality version of the song.
Earlier in the year, Lupe Fiasco dropped off his sixth studio album Drogas Light. While fans were excited for the project, Lupe had a different outlook on its release. Many believed his 2015 album Tetsuo & Youth was his last album under Atlantic Records but he later announced that Light was only released to fulfill his contractual obligations to Atlantic Records. He's had a turbulent relationship with the label since releasing his 2011, Lasers. Around the top of the year, he also announced the release of two other projects to follow Drogas Light. In September, he announced that he wouldn't drop another album this year so we could only hope those other two projects will surface in 2018.
Most recently, Lupe Fiasco dropped a slew of new music within a week. He kicked it off by dropping "All While Doing A Rubik's Cube One-Handed," a freestyle over Jay-Z's "Marcy Me" off 4:44. A few days later, he followed with "KJazz" and "Black Power L Word." Lupe Fiasco is setting this up to have a solid 2017.
