Lil Yachty has never been one to play by the rules, but he may have outdone himself with a confounding line from the Migos-assisted single "Peek A Boo."
"She blow that dick like a cello," he raps on the song, causing musicians -- as well as anyone else who's seen a cello -- to scratch their heads. After careful consideration, the line seems to indicate that the rapper is either being trollishly absurd or simply doesn't know what a cello is. Thankfully, Yachty was kind enough to explain the line in an interview with Genius.
"OK, let’s stop for a second," he said, sensing that he was about to be called out for the mix-up. "Before you come at me, I'ma let you know. I'ma blame my A&R. Because he listened to that song many times and he allowed me to say that."
After (justifiably) throwing his team under the bus, Yachty revealed that he momentarily confused a cello for a clarinet. "I guess for a second, I thought a cello was a woodwind instrument and it is not. And nobody ever said shit. Nobody ever pulled up a pic and said, 'Hey man. I don’t know if you know what this is, but it ain’t that.' I fucked up. I thought Squidward played the cello." Unfortunately, he then misclassified the instrument once again (or quite possibly just misremembered the instrument the character played). "That’s a flute. I fucked up."
After people continued to give the rapper a hard time for his knowledge of woodwinds, Yachty took to Twitter to let fans know he was aware of what a clarinet is.
