Major League Baseball has announced that the All-Star Game will no longer determine home field advantage in the World Series.
Ever since 2003, the league that won the All-Star Game was granted home field advantage for the World Series, but now it will go to the pennant winner with the best regular season record. As it should.
Former commissioner Bud Selig implemented the rule after the 2002 All Star Game, which ended in a tie, as a means to "give the players something to really play for."
According to the AP, instead of playing for World Series home field advantage, players will now be incentivized by a pool of money that will be rewarded to the winning side.
