Lil Wayne has had a legendary career, so it's no surprise that he would be considered a very influential figure on the newer generations of rappers. Lil Skies clearly admires Lil Wayne, as his new video for the third single off his Life of a Dark Rose album, takes its cues directly from Lil Wayne's "A Milli" video.
Now, to be fair to Skies and Cole Bennett (this is his third video with Lil Skies), they admit this openly at the very end of the video. So enjoy it more as an homage rather than a rip-off.
As such, the video follows Lil Skies walking around on set for what would presumably be a different music video. In fact, there are cameos and direct flashbacks to his previous two music videos, so there is some continuity here. Skies takes pictures, plays dice in a door way, and goes through several wardrobe changes, before finishing the song with a big crowd of people dancing behind him and finally driving away in a fancy car.
Lil Skies star has risen recently, it's possible he sees himself following in the footsteps of his heroes.
