2K Sports has announced that Cleveland Cavs All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving will be the cover athlete for NBA 2K18.

Irving, who admits to playing the game frequently, had this to say about landing on the cover,

"The opportunity that's at hand, to be able to grace the cover of 2K, some of the greatest athletes that have played our game have been on this cover, I'm just glad I just joined that lineage," says Irving.

That lineage includes his teammate LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and two guys he'll be playing in this year's NBA Finals, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.

According to USA Today, Irving has some very specific rules when gaming with friends, some of which might sound familiar to you, including: 6-minute quarters, no fatigue, a choice of three randomly selected teams (with an option for a fourth random team that you must play with if you don't want your first three choices) and a five-game series amongst those teams.

But his go-to team isn't the Cavs, it's the Chicago Bulls because, according to Irving, "Jimmy Butler is an animal in that game."

NBA 2K18 will be available on September 15th for those who pre-order.

Back in May, it was announced that Shaquille O'Neal landed the NBA 2K18 "Legend Edition" cover, a special $100+ edition of the beloved basketball video game. Click here for more information about what the 2K18 "Legend Edition" entails.
