Chicken and waffles is a Southern staple. A charming meal that can be enjoyed at really any time of the day. Whoever thought of combining waffles with fried chicken was probably a pretty strange dude but we're so happy they actually did. With a watermelon salad on the side, a chicken and waffles meal is like a national treasure. We should have seen this coming but the colonel if officially adding a new menu item to his restaurants with chicken and waffles being offered for a limited time at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

KFC chains are trying the new item out, testing the waters until December 31 as chicken and waffles have been added to the menu. The fast food hub will be serving the dish with either extra crispy chicken tenders or the regular crispy chicken. Of course, syrup will be provided at the counter. The item was officially added yesterday according to USA Today, and it's going for $5.49 nationwide. For 50 cents extra, you can get a Hot Honey chicken and waffle sandwich.

A statement was issued by KFC's chief marketing officer Andrea Zahumensky as she said, "Our famous extra crispy, savory fried chicken atop a Belgian Liege-style waffle, with the finishing touch of classic Mrs. Butterworth's syrup, makes for a scrumptious dish I'd put up against versions at upscale restaurants, but we're offering it at a price just about anyone can afford."

The new additions will be on the menu through December 31. Are you buying one?
