Golden State Warriors All-Stars Kevin Durant and Draymond Green got into a heated exchange at the end of regulation last night, after Green dribbled away the final possession of the fourth quarter without getting a shot up. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the jawing didn't end there.
The Warriors had gone on a 19-5 run late in the fourth to tie the game at 106 but when Lou Williams' potential game-winner clanked off the rim with roughly seven seconds remaining, Draymond took matters into his own hands and raced up the floor, ignoring Durant who was calling for the ball.
Woj reports that the argument carried into locker room Monday night following the 121-116 loss, with multiple teammates "loudly confronting Green for decision-making on final play of regulation." The scene was described as one of most intense of this Golden State Warriors' era.
Per ESPN:
"After the 121-116 overtime loss to the LA Clippers, some witnesses described the closed-door exchange as one of the most intense of this Warriors era. No one had to be separated, no player left his side and no hint of physicality loomed in the setting, sources said."
"Golden State officials were working Tuesday to deal with the situation, league sources said. Teammates did argue with Green over his choice in the final moments to keep the ball instead of passing to Durant for a try at a game-winning shot, sources said."
"Green was forceful in his defense of himself, which helped to escalate the volume in the room, sources said."
KD finished with a triple-double (33 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists), while Green had just six points and 14 boards. Golden State is still sitting atop the Western Conference with an 11-3 record as they prepare to host the Atlanta Hawks tonight.
