The Kendrick Lamar-curated soundtrack for Marvel's Black Panther will spend another week atop the Billboard 200, reports Billboard. After hitting No. 1 in its debut week on the charts, the album has moved 131,000 units (40,000 in pure sales) in week 2, giving it the edge on Migos' Culture 2, which moves 64,000 units this week and lands at No. 2. At its launch, Black Panther: The Album sold 154,000 units (52,000 in pure sales).
A few days after the releases, Kendrick, who curated the album alongside Anthony "Topw Dawg" Tiffith, thanked the many collaborators who helped make the project possible. "Respect to all the artist/producers that allowed me to execute a sound for the soundtrack, he said. "The concept of producing and composing a project other than my own has always been ideal. I appreciate the experience love ones. Continue to be great."
In an interview with BBC Radio 1 earlier this week, Kendrick revealed that he'd like to act in the sequel. "I really enjoy Killmonger's character, just off the simple fact that he was a villain but he came with some real," he said. "He was a villain but he was loved and misunderstood. So if I could, I'd play a Killmonger for sure."
Earlier today, news broke that Black Panther had achieved the second-best second weekend of all time. At $108 million generated this weekend as of Saturday, it trails only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which holds the current record. It has surpassed The Avengers, which previously held second place.
