The Reading & Leeds Festival has announced its lineup today and the inclusion of many rap acts sends shockwaves.
The Reading Festival is one of the most frequented music tourneys that Europe has to offer. Traditionally more receptive to rock acts, the lineup revealed today by their festival committee is majority rap.
The festival lineup includes hip hop artists such as: Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Playboi Carti, Ski Mask the Slump God, Lil Pump, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Belly, and $uicideboy$.
Grime and Afrobeats are also covered, with acts such as: Skepta, J Hus, Yungen, IAMDB, Ghetts, Fredo, Kojo Funds, Nadia Ros, Mist, Wretch 32 and AJ Tracey count among the UK contemporaries couched in-between.
The drastic overhaul from their traditional markups is a strong indication of hip hop's influential stake on the critical mass. In as much as popular music trends are concerned, the lineup reflects the ideals of UK society but that isn't sitting pretty with long time festival-goers who are outraged by the committee's decision to rebrand. Many took to Twitter to voice their dismay.
Here at HotNewHipHop we strongly encourage the pervasiveness of hip hop culture. It's unfortunate that some view this ordeal as an interference of some kind. Tickets go on sale for a startling €220 so be prepared to plan accordingly.
