Kanye Explains His Remarks On Beck And The Grammys, Reveals Plans To Work With Taylor Swift

Kanye West appeared on "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" this morning, where he expanded on his actions at The Grammys and some of his controversial remarks that followed.

After Beck was announced the winner of Album of the Year, the final award of the night, at last weekend's Grammys, Kanye rushed the stage but stopped himself before he reached the mic; a far less dramatic stunt than when he famously interrupted Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs. Still, many think Kanye's intentions were disrespectful, especially as he said, "Beck needs to respect artistry" during an interview after the Awards. He now tells Seacrest his comments were misguided--"obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists and respects artistry."

'Ye says he was beckoned on stage by a voice in his head and stopped short because he didn't want to take away any of Beck's spotlight. He goes on: "Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game." It should be noted that, apparently, Beck wasn't dismayed by Kanye's actions, telling US Weekly: "I was just so excited he was coming up."

Kanye tells Seacrest that racism played no part in his actions: "I also wanted to stress to people that it’s not a black or white thing at all ... We are one race. We are the human race, period."

Surprisingly enough, Kanye says that Taylor Swift, the woman who's spotlight he stole in 2009, approached him after the show and said he was right to rush the stage in protest of Beyonce's snub. What's more, he says he and Taylor are planning to make music together: "...we're definitely going to go in. Any artist with an amazing point of view, perspective, fan base, I’m down to get in the studio and work."

In non-Grammy related talk, Yeezy spoke on working with Paul McCartney, as well as on the upcoming release of his adidas Yeezy Boosts. There will be a fashion show accompanying the release, which will be streamed in 40 locations across the world. Adidas will initially release 9,000 pairs of the shoe.

u do this on every Kanye article, i know its because people replace Em with Ye in the top 5 of all time. But your right, Kanye is right behind Em tho..the only problem is that these young ass niggas dont really know how crazy Em was when he was Slim Shady

Kanye has gotten better production wise but lyrically he's fallen off since his first three albums

As an artist I love kanye, but as a person he's a piece of shit. I want to ask him what he'd do if some came on stage while he was getting a Grammy

Kanye West and Eminem are very similar In terms of loud mouths. They both made a career off bashing ppl

Kanye backtracking hard. He didn't say anything because he said he has a wife and a kid and Kim was going after him. He told The-Dream that he and everybody should have went on stage. He also hinted at racism hard during his rant. He basically also said Beck didn't have respect cuz he didn't give up his award.

becks albums >>>>>x10>>> beyonces album and ive heard them both. beyonces just once. nxt kanye needs to stay in his lane and shut his mouth talking about a real artist like beck compared to a pretty face/tone with beyonce. beck IS music. beyonce does music. i swear hiphop artists and most of their fans are just clowns..if its not hiphop its not worth type of shit.. rap isnt the only music. get over it

Hopefully, Kanye gets a bunch of hate for this and his to dissapear from the public eye. Not because I'm a TMZ-reading soccer mom who thinks Kanye scored 100 points on wheelchair basketball team, but because last time this happened he created his best album to date. Maybe he was just trying to recapture the magic?

Honestly...fuck this guy. Homecoming was the last decent piece of work he had before he turned into a conceded piece of shit with mediocre lyrics at best. Finds his fame through drama. Just like the majority of artists in todays entertainment industry. Where's Nas when you need him.

Bob Frister
- Feb 11, 2015

Look, I dont think Kanye is any genius. His attitude takes away from any limited talent he might have. People should stop buying into his nonsense, and his records and concerts as well. I bet he will shut up then. He tries to force his opinion on everything including fashion on everyone. If someone did to him what he does to others, he would be irate. This guy is an unprofessional hoodrat

DJtretre McMillia

Damn.. There are some dumb fucking people on here. Should have a section that teaches people how to fucking read or use proper grammar. Fucking pathetic.

I knew it was a stunt when he did it, but... Taylor Swift x Kanye, I can fuck with that...
