"No one really tells me what to do. I'm just me."
Jorja Smith recently dropped a music video for "On Your Own." She is now offering an exclusive glimpse into its production with a behind-the-scenes video in which she discusses how it all came together.
"I like working with people that get me, and kind of are on the same wavelength as what I wanna do."
She explains how she became friends with director Rashid Babiker two years ago thanks to their shared interests in cinema and photography. The pair eventually collaborated on her "Teenage Fantasy" music video and, most recently, on the visuals for "On Your Own."
When it comes to the "wavelength" she mentions, Babiker is definitely on the same one as Smith. She recalls the time she had called him to ask whether he would draw up a treatment for the "Own Your Own" video. Coincidentally, Babiker was already in the process of working on it. The "empowering breakup song" came together organically from the music production onwards.
Jorja's glam team also chimed in, dishing about the artist's beauty preferences. They explain how the entertainer has very particular tastes in fashion. When it comes to makeup, her looks start with skincare, including glycolic acid pads and moisturizers. Her makeup artist reveals the kinds of products the singer gravitates towards.
