Football is generally considered to be THE American sport. The Super Bowl is the most watched televised event in the nation year after year, with millions of individuals tuning in to watch beefy men toss around pigskin and compete to win the title of best team in the league. Football is engrained in American culture from the high stakes professional NFL, to the more quotidian high school leagues that routinely draw a large and passionate crowd of spectators.

However, the contestants on last night's episode of Jeopardy! were clearly not enthralled by the game, and their level of bewilderment was completely amusing.

One brave contestant by the name of Ryan had the dishonour of choosing the last category of clues left during this specific round of trivia, which happened to be about football. For $200, the participants were asked to recognize a play in which "the QB runs the ball & can choose to pitch it to another back." Dead silence filled the room, void of any semblance of urgency to press the buzzer.

Well, unfortunately for Ryan and co., there were another 4 clues that needed to be solved, and each went without the faintest attempt to provide an answer.

By the end of the round, host Alex Trebek seemed to be begging for a commercial break to end this reticent round of trivia. Peep the clip below:
