The lyrics for Jay Rock's "Win" are a perfect example of what he does best. The repetition of "win" and other words like "squad" are always surprising in their simplicity, like his perfect "I gotta go get it" line from "King's Dead." It's no surprise that he chose the song to perform on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Unlike most late night performances, "Win" sounds just like the album version. Jay Rock even brought a full horn section on to accompany his performance. He also had some backup from two dancers who do what Jay Rock (and most of us) could never dream of doing.
The appearance on Colbert is to promote Jay Rock's upcoming "Big Redemption" tour which begins in four days in Lawrence, Kansas. The tour comes after the release, earlier this year, of Jay Rock's Redemption, which he recently called "album of the year" which is a hard claim to disagree with if you're into lyrical rap.
Fans of Jay Rock and the rest of the TDE roster should be excited in general, considering the Top Dawg himself recently took to Twitter to promise two more TDE albums coming this year, to make four after Jay Rock's Redemption and the Black Panther Soundtrack.
