“If you watch this movie, you’re going to want to go and skate,” Smith says. “If you’re a guy or a girl, it doesn’t matter.”
Skate Kitchen is centered around female leads. The skateboard crew is portrayed by a real-life formation of the same name. Rachelle Vinberg, Dede Lovelace, Nina Moran, Ajani Russell, and Kabrina Adams are all part of this New York-based crew.
The film is directed by Crystal Moselle who has garnered much positive attention with past projects. Her preceding effort, The Wolfpack, won the 2015 Sundance U.S. Documentary Grand Prize.
The movie hits theaters on August 10. Skate Kitchen's full trailer is available for viewing here.
