iLoveMakonnen is feeling extra generous this weekend. In the wee hours last night, he dropped off a 10-minute non-stop freestyle, during which he basically relayed his entire life story. It's powerful stuff. Next, he decided to release a romantic ballad, "Stay With Me Tonight," produced by Sonny Digital. He's now dropped his third new track of the day -- one that's a tad less earnest than the previous two: "Swimming in the Money."
The track maintains an aqueous theme, as Makonnen is "swimming in the money" ("that's why these sharks comin' for me"). The beat, made up of softly reverberating synths, is well-suited to the underwater aesthetic. Production comes from DJ Spinz as well of Danny Wolf, both members of Hoodrich Entertainment.
Humor is part of Makonnen's appeal, though that's not to imply there's a lack of substance within tracks like this. Indeed, there's something about his singing voice that's as deep as the sea of money in which he swims (always in freestyle).
