In just two days, Hiatus Kaiyote’s EP Recalibrations Vol. 1 releases. The project will feature remixes of certain songs from their 2015 album Choose Your Weapon, including this remix to “Laputa.”
Taylor McFerrin and Anderson .Paak provide the rework for this already wavy track. McFerrin applies his talented keyboard and production work to give the song a jazzier sound, while Anderson. Paak slides through for a typically excellent verse to close out the song. It’s unclear if the added drum work towards the middle is also .Paak’s.
Hiatus Kaiyote are using the “Laputa” remix to promote a series of summer tour dates. Check those out below to see if the Melbourne band is coming to a city near you.
Up above the overlord
that's my city lifting overboard
the queen in tattered clothing
she dreams of music overtures
she's drifting over fog
crystals in the magnetic molding
they'd love to take your charm
corruption is at large, so good god keep floating
