After writing about Gucci Mane so many times this year, it's hard to not throw in the obligatory "2017 has been a great year for Guwop" line. Because, after all, it has. Gucci has released two albums, an autobiography, gotten married (and secured a serious bag from BET in the process) and generally impressed the world with his post-prison charisma and work ethic. Personally, I count Droptopwop as one of the year's strongest releases, and Gucci managed to follow it up with another strong musical effort, the feature-heavy Mr. Davis. Ultimately, Mr. Davis may lack the musical cohesion of Droptopwop, but not every project has the privilege of being exclusively produced by Metro Boomin.

Still, Mr. Davis was a more mainstream effort for Guwop, with A-list features on near every song. With appearances from Slim Jxmmi, The Weeknd, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Big Sean, ScHoolboy Q, and more, it's no wonder that Gucci's latest managed to come through big in the sales department. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard charts, moving 70,000 units, with 21,000 of them being of the "traditional" variety. The project secured the majority of sales via streams, landing 46,000 SEA, which calculates to 68.7 million streams of Mr. Davis songs. Overall, it's a successful week for Gucci, and Mr. Davis matched 2016's Everybody Looking as Gucci's highest charting album.

If you haven't already checked out the album, you should most definitely get on that. We recently reviewed the album, agreeing that the project was a "step forward for Gucci Mane," but ultimately felt the album suffered from an abundance of guest features. Still, there's no denying that sober Gucci's flow and lyricism are as sharp as ever. If he continues down this path, perhaps the Guopwissance will bless us with bangers for years to come. Congrats Gucci!
