A few days ago, it was announced that Gladys Knight would be singing the National Anthem at the upcoming Super Bowl in Atlanta. The performers at the football event have been subject to much criticism by those who support the protests that Colin Kaepernick has led regarding police brutality and injustice. Kaep has not played professionally since 2016 with NFL owners seemingly blacklisting him despite his obvious ability to still be a starting quarterback in the league. It has been reported that Travis Scott spoke to Kaep before accepting his halftime appearance but after a few retweets showed up on the former player's page, it became clear that Trav was capping (pun fully intended.) Now, Gladys Knight is speaking out as to why she signed on for the National Anthem, throwing some subtle shade at Colin in the process.

"I understand that Mr. Kaepernick is protesting two things, and they are police violence and injustice," wrote Knight. "It is unfortunate that our National Anthem has been dragged into this debate when the distinctive senses of the National Anthem and fighting for justice should each stand alone."

She continued, "I am here today and on Sunday, Feb. 3 to give the Anthem back its voice, to stand for that historic choice of words, the way it unites us when we hear it and to free it from the same prejudices and struggles I have fought long and hard for all my life, from walking back hallways, from marching with our social leaders, from using my voice for good — I have been in the forefront of this battle longer than most of those voicing their opinions to win the right to sing our country’s Anthem on a stage as large as the Super Bowl LIII."

What do you make of her statement?
