Jon Snow's trusty companion Ghost was missing for the entire seventh season of Game of Thrones. Fans were curious as to where Ghost could have been, while GoT did show us another direwolf. Arya reunited with Nymeria after being separated since season one. Arya infamously chased her direwolf away to save its life, and the two reunited for a brief moment in “Stormborn.” It looks like Jon is in for a reunion himself, when the final season of Game of Thrones touches down next year.

GoT VFX Supervisor Joe Bauer sat down with HuffPost in August, and revealed that Ghost would be reappearing in season eight. “Oh, you’ll see him again. He has a fair amount of screen time in Season 8," he stated. “He does show up.” As for the reason why the direwolves have been used so sporadically, Bauer claims that training real life wolves is no easy task. "The direwolves are tough because you don’t want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways,” stated Bauer. “I think that has something to do with why the direwolves are in the show but they’re not maybe as integral as they are in the books."
