Sad news has hit the Atlanta hip-hop scene today, with news of the passing of engineer Seth Firkins. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he was Future's personal engineer and had also worked with the likes of Young Thug, Zoey Dollaz and Young Scooter, just to name a few. Once the word of his death was made public, many members of the hip-hop community took to social media to share their thoughts for their fallen colleague.
All-star producer Mike Will Made-It shared a short but poignant message on Instagram, captioning a studio picture of him, Firkins and Future with these words: "Naw Fr, and you can never be replaced big dog, 1 of a kind fr, REST EASY OG, LOVE !" Zoey Dollaz echoed those sentiments as well, writing, "I met u through Pluto a year or two ago dealing with music but literally u became an actual friend outside of music always checking on me always telling me u grew to love me like a Lil bro and how talented I am smh if this hurt me I can imagine how Hndrxx feeling 😢🙏🏿 rest in heaven big guy @sethfirkins grateful I got to meet u."
However, perhaps the most heartfelt words came from Future, who not only worked with Firkins on multiple hit records throughout both of their careers, but the two had become very close friends over time. Sharing another studio picture of his engineer hard at work, Future wrote some emotional words about their relationship:
"I always gave racism a cold shoulder because my real brother Is a white guy by the name of Seth Firkins. I got a call saying u died in your sleep? First thing came to my mind is, why are you sleep at 5am? That's when we record our best shit & I tell u "don't" fall asleep we got more work to do.. but somethin told me I should've been at home recording for some reason. I was saying this in my head, then bad news beat me home!
I love u beyond this post, I will cherish u forever big bro, I just wish u would've text me & told me u was going to sleep and i wasn't going to be able to wake u up this time...the family will miss u 1000%!! No kap in my game kid, rest well my brother. Rest well. 🦅"
Firkins was well-known for helping Future shape his sound and delivery using auto-tune. Our condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
