After word got out about rapper Rick Ross crashing his Rolls Royce into a building after being the target of a drive-by shooting very early yesterday morning, on his birthday no less, some have wondered if his larger-than-life Scarface rap personae is responsible for the attempted hit on his life.

One person who seems to think the Miami rapper is playing the part of a gangster without realizing the very real consequences is Freeway Ricky Ross.

"I'm not surprised that it happened given recent ongoings, when someone doesn't understand the street rules they get confused and incidents like this can take place," the former drug kingpin said in an interview with HipHopDX. "I'm still dealing with ongoing litigation about something as basic as using my name and identity, that should have been dealt with properly a long time ago. We covered it in more depth in the Power of the Name Rick Ross piece."

Freeway Ricky Ross has been involved a very public litigation battle over his name and image with the MMG head honcho and Warner Music.

“This guy is literally trying to have people confuse him with me as an actual person,” Freeway Ricky Ross said about the lawsuit. “In every interview I mention Superfly as the movie that pushed me into powder cocaine. I even said it in the VH1′s Planet Rock: The Story of Hip Hop and The Crack Generation, that was shown around the world. Then he comes out with this new video with the Superfly movie cover as the centerpiece?”

His next court date is set for the end of the summer.
