The video game industry is making bank.
The video game industry is booming. eSPorts is growing to become a lucrative sports outlet, while casual gamers continue to spend tons of money on the latest games and updates. Mobile games are only adding to the increasing revenue of video games, with titles like Fortnite mobile becoming the number one downloaded app on iOS when it launched.
Fortnite is arguably the most popular game in the world right now, and God of War is a new classic, so it's no surprise to anyone that the two titles helped pushed the gaming revenue to its peak. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, revenue for console games increased by 44 percent in the month of April.
The increase is mainly due to the fact that Fortnite amassed a monstrous $296 million and God of War sold over 3 million copies in the first three days of launch. The hack and slash epic broke the PlayStation record to become the fastest selling exclusive game for the system. Worldwide digital spending grew by 23 percent in April. Gamers spent over $9 billion on digital games across consoles, mobile, and PC titles, which is a $2 billion increase from reported revenue in the same month last year. The biggest growth came from console and mobile, via in-game purchases such as cosmetics, upgrades, and other downloadable content.
