Amber Guyger turned herself in and posted bond after shooting and killing Botham Jean in his own home. Dallas County DA Faith Johnson commented on the change of the original manslaughter charges. Guyger may now face prison time for murder instead.

“We presented the evidence and we explained the law." Johnson also said her office interviewed 300 witnesses. “At the moment of the shooting, it was an intentional event,” she continued.

Botham Jean's family was present when the new criminal charge was announced and spoke to reporters.

“I look forward to the next step, which is a conviction of murder for Amber Guyger. And more so, the proper penalty to reflect on the pain she has caused,” said Jean’s mother. The victim's father described him as a "sweet boy" who “ didn’t deserve that.”

Guyger's legal team still affirm their client's innocence: “What does she think about the indictment? Amber dedicated her adult life to defending and protecting people so this whole event has taken a toll emotionally and physically on her. She knows that she’s innocent. She knows that this was a tragic mistake so she’s holding up.”

The defense will start filing motions this coming Monday and may take up to a year to prepare their case.
