The return of Empire and Star to primetime television has helped FOX lead the ratings competition for original television series. On Wednesday night, Empire resumed this season's narrative, and raked up 6.14 million viewers in the process. While that figure may be down 29% from last year's spring return, it is rose 5% in viewership from the Dec. 13 fall finale. The series originally aired at 9PM on Wednesdays, but has since been pushed up an hour to 8PM as a lead-in to Star, another musical drama.
The Survivor saga that never seems to quit continually snags top honours in the ratings game, even if this current season hasn't been performing as historically as previous outings. This week's episode of Survivor: Ghost Island bested some stiff competition from both The Voice and Empire, and was Wednesday's most-watched show for five weeks in a row.
Additionally, Zach Braff, who is most known for his starring role in the NBC medical comedy Scrubs, fronts another original production called Alex, Inc, this time for ABC. The premiere landed a decent 4.59 million viewers; only time will tell if the scripted series will have longevity similar to Braff's previous televisual endeavours.
