Eminem's battle-rap movie "Bodied" will soon be upon us.
You might have already heard of "Bodied," a battle rap film from the mind of producer Eminem, director Joseph Kahn, and writer Alex "Kid Twist" Larsen. If you haven't, you soon will - after a screening at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, "Bodied" earned the People Choice Midnight Madness award. The film also won awards at AFI Fest and Fantastic Fest, and it's not even officially out yet. Suffice it to say, "Bodied" is already looking like a critical darling, which is interesting given the relatively niche subject matter of battle rap.
Written by Toronto's own Kid Twist, "Bodied" features several fellow battle rappers, from Dizaster, to Jonathan “Dumbfoundead” Park, to Hollow Da Don. Even Charlamagne Tha God is set to make an appearance. Fans of battle rap should be pleased to note that the film was penned by somebody with actual experience within the culture, and nobody can deny that Kid Twist certainly had his moments in the battle rap circuit, with plenty of notable accomplishments under his belt.
The question is, how and when can we catch "Bodied?" As it stands, the film rights have been officially acquired by YouTube Red. According to Variety, Youtube will host a screening at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, January 21st, before receiving a theatrical release on an undetermined date. Afterward, the film will be available for streaming exclusively on YouTube Red. Are you hyped for this? While it might still be a minute before the film is widely accessible, stay tuned for more news on any developments as they occur.
