During his scheduled performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, Ed Sheeran surprised fans with an appearance from rapper Lil Uzi Vert.

While Sheeran kicked off with his "Shape of You" track, Uzi came out to deliver a previously-unheard remix lending his own verse to the cut.

The duo then switched into a live rendition of Uzi's "XO TOUR Llif3," and while unexpected, it was certainly a sight to see.

Both nominated for awards Sunday night (August 27), Ed Sheeran walked away with Artist of The Year, beating out contenders Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Lorde.

All the while, Lil Uzi Vert grabbed the award for Song of The Summer for his aforementioned "XO TOUR LliF3," prevailing over "Despacito," Sheeran's "Shape of You," Demi Lovato's "Sorry Not Sorry," DJ Khaled's "Wild Thoughts," Camila Cabello's "OMG" collab with Quavo, Fifth Harmony's "Down" alongside Gucci Mane, and Shawn Mendes' "There's No Holding Me Back."

While these were the Video Music Awards, Uzi managed to pull off a win with the track without having actually released an official music video for it.

It was this week that his Luv Is Rage 2 finally arrived, flexing tracks like "The Way Life Goes," the "TOUR LliF3" cut and guest spots from the likes of The Weeknd and Pharrell.

The rollout also came with a sit down down with Zane Lowe for an interview on the latter's Beats 1 spot. During the chat, the young rapper teased a forthcoming freestyle Rock album.

"Everything right now is all about being effortless," Uzi explained about his creative process. "I'm in the mode right now."

Despite differing opinions, Uzi cited his fans' support thus far as a strong enough reason to believe that such a project would be successful, going so far to speculate that it could go triple-platinum if the people are really feeling it.
