On Saturday night, OVO's newly signed R&B act dvsn was the special guest on OVO Sound Radio. It's unclear who exactly is behind dvsn, and it could just be the male vocalist who made his live debut at the Fader Fort during SXSW. Regardless, dvsn is making a strong attempt in bridging together classic and modern R&B, as evidenced in his cover of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On," which was played during his OVO Sound mix.
The addition of some soft, creeping 808s give the cover a modern edge, but it's clear dvsn has an ability to translate raw emotion much like that of his heroes. His spontaneous vocals simmer over the slow-burning production, making the track tingle with more intimacy than most electronic-tinged bedroom jams. The "Let's Get It On" cover is similarly impressive to his remix of Aaliyah's "One in a Million," which also dropped during OVO Sound.
